Allow us to add our own filler words
C
Christopher Defendorf
One of my co-hosts will often say "and my thing is... or "what I'm saying is..." or "and I'm trying to say..."
If I could add these I wouldn't have to search for them. Every sentence is different so I might not want to delete all without reviewing.
But now I search for "my thing is" in a separate pass after removing filler words. THANKS

I just reached out to support to ask for this. I'd also love the ability to specify the conditions by which it targets that filler word. For example, "right" is a filler word only if proceeded by a question mark AND at the end or beginning of a sentence.
It is very frustrating and a waste of time that we have to continually repeat the same work, when adding these words (even if it's in a config file or something, and not elevated to be within the UI) could save so much of our collective time.

Add my own "filler words" and be able to cre4ate default selections of what filler words to track/ignore

I know there are tools to remove specific filler words, but some words are ALWAYS correct for me and I hate having to uncheck them every time... plus I know some of my specific filler words (which aren't on your list) and would like to add them like "and" as well as "now" which I seem to unconsciously start about half my sentences with)

I would love to be able to keep my choices of removal from transcript to transcript. I use this program solely for transcription and I always remove the same filler words. It would be great if I didn't have to constantly update that list with every transcription.

Add "so" to filler words

Right now, it's impossible to search for "so", because it's not three words. This is a common word people overuse.

Delete MORE Filler Words!

I love the "delete filler words" feature...is there any way you could add customization? For instance, I interview someone who says "you know" after every "umm"...so Descript catches most of the "umms" but not the "you knows"...but maybe it would be great to be able to catch more filler words and even to be able to specify what to look for?

Add or remove words to the filler word list

Provide the ability to either "add" words to be removed or "remove" words that would be removed.

Filler words for auto removal should be configurable

I would like to automatically ignore not only "Um" etc., but also other words that appear in the following list. It would be good if there was a way to store these words in the settings. It takes a long time to search for and ignore all the words individually using the search function. Especially because the desktop application becomes very slow while the search is open if you have a long audio file (1h) open. This makes it almost impossible to ignore the words.
Here is a list of my fill words that I would experiment with:
Fuck
shit
Yeah
No
And
Maybe
So
Would
Should
Must
Many people have their own language style and use different words as filler words. Therefore a configuration of the filler word list would be useful.

This would, i hope, also solve the filler words problem for other languages. You could just define your own filler words in your own language.

I love this request, but the program already kinda does this. You can search the transcript to locate words and delete or ignore them individually or in bulk like filler words. It works great no only for elimination but for correcting spelling or transcription errors.

It's been 3 years since this request (and many others hv the same request).
I spend SO much time doing Find/Replace for certain speakers. One lecturer has more than 100 filler words. Almost all of his sentences contain "actual," "actually," "specific," or "I can tell you that."
Not only does Descript lack the option to add your own list of filler words, but also I need to do the Find/Replace procedure one at a time for each filler word.
If Descript is unable to let users add their own filler words, at least give users a way to Find/Replace (replacing with nothing) a LIST of phrases.
