Feature Requests

The newest update removed the ability to overwrite or update saved layouts. Now you can only save new layouts. I use Descript to edit podcasts, and rely on the ability to overwrite existing layouts as small changes are needed based on the framing of guests which changes every episode. It would be incredibly inconvenient and wasteful to create brand new layouts and delete outdated versions each time I edit a new episode, but that is my only option with the new update.

A kind of feature that we can create a shorts for our youtube channel which we can also generate or auto generate images for B-roll.

This would save us SO MUCH TIME using the editor for things like: ✅ text/title presets (all text have a drop shadow, thin black border, be a certain size, have a certain fade in & out animation, etc) ✅ stock presets (all GIFs and images to have a drop shadow & be placed into the top right corner/quadrant of the 16:9 video ratio, vs b-roll stock footage fill up the whole screen & have no drop shadow) ✅ live caption presets ✅ standard zoom in & back out presets when emphasizing a point in the video vs setting it up every time & adding a crossfade on both start/end to transition it better, etc ✅ timeline presets for zoom levels (let us set how zoomed in we want to be for the duration of our editing, until we change it ourselves)

I used to be able to duplicate a template as a project. Now I cannot. My only option is to duplicate layout pack, which just makes another template. This creates additional steps in my workflow that do not need to be there and makes creating podcast episodes more complicated than it needs to be!

I'm trying to use my own templates and they don't work at all, for some reason if I create a template the video that comes with the template is wrong of if I don't include the video, then I just have the image I've created. There should be a way to create your own overlay, that would solve a lot of the issues around using templates. I don't need a million templates in the gallery, I just need a way to create a frame with titles in my style and paste that over whatever multi-cam scene comes up, or better yet, just apply it to each AI speaker automatically. It should be much easier than it is today.

I've noticed a downgrade in the way Descript helps me apply templates. If I try to apply a template to a scene, I have to go to that scene, go to "Choose layouts", then navigate to where my template project is, which means one of the three tabs - Drive, Private, etc. - and then find the project, click inside the template project, select the template I want and apply it. That's a lot of clicks and it wouldn't be a problem if it meant it REMEMBERS that place for the next time I want to apply a template in this project. But Descript now doesn't remember and every time I have to apply the same template again, I have to click all those places all the time -- to get to the tab, the project, the template because it forgets this place. It used to remember that. Please bring it back.

Hi there, I'm still finding my way though Descript and have learned that I can create my intro and outro sequences as templates that I can import to the project. After adding a new blank scene to the start/end of the project, intuitively, I right click on the scene to view the options and look for "add from template" in the options. Not sure if this would be an easy add-on, but it would be great to be able to quickly and easily add the template into the scene from the dropdown menu. things like a permanent title card that is prefilled with the same info before creating the clip. Eg in templates or native in adding the same text in boxes at specific location on the videos

I would like to create stacked portrait shorts for reels that fill the entire screen. For example, I have an interview so a spilt screen in landscape. When I change the deminson to portrait it places the landscape video in the middle of the screen with a ton of access blank space on the top and bottom of the screen. Is this something you can add? A 9:16 split screen? I could get rid of my Vidioiq paid account if this feature was enabled.

It would allow instantly changing some parts into a nice text panel with animation without having to do all the stuff manually. Imagine AI short generated video like that.
