Release roundup—November 6, 2026
October was mostly treats. Descript reads the brand guidelines nobody else opens and turns them into a full layout pack. Underlord learned skills, so you can teach it a workflow once and call it up with a slash. And deleting a project isn't forever anymore. It waits in the trash for 30 days, in case you panic. The smaller stuff is below.
New
Hand over your brand guidelines. Get back a layout pack.
This is a big one. Building on-brand layouts by hand means hours of nudging text boxes. Now you give Descript your brand guidelines, your logo, and your colors, or just describe a look. Descript’s AI shows you four directions. Pick one, and it builds a full layout pack in your brand that everyone on your drive can use on every video.
Every layout in the pack is editable, and you can ask Underlord to change any of them. Underlord also styles the scenes in your project for you. Tell it what you want, and it lays them out.
Available on paid plans. Generating a pack uses AI credits.
How to find it
- Go to the Drive view.
- In the bottom section of the left sidebar under "Tools", click on Layout packs.
- You can create a new generative layout pack by clicking the New layout pack button, which opens the "Generate a layout pack" flow.

Teach Underlord your workflow
Typing the same instructions into Underlord every time gets old. A skill is a set of instructions Underlord can reuse. Type / in the Underlord chat to pick one of Descript's skills, or choose Create skill to write your own. When an edit goes the way you wanted, save that conversation as a skill. You can use more than one skill in a message, or add your own notes to one.
Skills replace prompt templates. Templates you saved yourself won't turn into skills on their own. To keep one, go to Settings → Skills → View templates and choose Save as skill. Templates switch off on November 30.
How to find it
- Go to the Drive view.
- In the top section of the left sidebar, click on Home.
- From the Home page, you can start new projects using various skills (e.g., Edit a video, Make a podcast, Create social clips).

Get a deleted project back
Deleting a project now moves it to the trash. Click Trash in your sidebar to see what you deleted and restore it. Each project stays there for 30 days before it's deleted for good. You can also select several projects and delete them at once.
How to find it
- In the Drive view, click the ellipses icon (⋯) next to the project name.
- Click Delete.
- Select Move to Trash.

Search for what’s in the shot
You remember the shot. The whiteboard, the product on the desk, the sunset over the parking lot. You don’t remember the file name, because the file name is IMG_4471. On Enterprise drives, search now looks at what’s in your images and videos, not just what they’re called. Describe the shot, and it comes up.
It works everywhere you search your drive: the search bar, Underlord, the Descript MCP, and the API. So you can ask Underlord, or Claude or ChatGPT through the MCP, to find the whiteboard shot for you.
Available on Enterprise drives.
How to find it
- Click the Search bar located at the top of the app.
- Type a description of the content you are looking for (for example, "dog at the beach").
- Descript will surface the exact moments in videos or images that match your description.
- Select a result from the dropdown list to open it, or press Enter to open the full search results page where you can tab between keyword and visual matches.
Search for what's in the shot
On Enterprise drives, search finds images and videos by what's in them, not just by file name. You can find the shot with the whiteboard without knowing what the file is called. It also works when you search through Underlord, the Descript MCP, or the API.
Upload to Descript from ChatGPT
When you use Descript in ChatGPT, it can open an upload panel. Pick a file from your device, and it goes straight into a Descript project, ready for Underlord to edit.
Know when a camera or mic goes quiet in Rooms
Usually you find out about a dead mic after the call. Now Rooms warns you while you record. If a camera or screen share stays black for 10 seconds, or a mic is nearly silent for 30, you get a warning. Hosts and producers see warnings for everyone in the room. Recording keeps going either way.
Improved
Descript works in Firefox
Firefox is officially supported. The warning you used to get when you opened Descript in Firefox is gone.
Words line up with the audio more closely
Descript has a new model for matching each word to its spot in the audio. Words land in the wrong place less often, and transcripts come back faster.
Your comments come along with timeline exports
Timeline exports now carry your comments as markers, so your notes show up in Premiere, Resolve, or Pro Tools right where you left them. It works in every format: EDL, AAF, FCPXML, Premiere XML, DaVinci Resolve XML, and SESX.
And there's even more:
- Export a native Premiere project (.prproj), in beta. Your Descript sequences open as multicam source sequences in Premiere.
- Pinecast is in the export menu under Podcasting. Descript makes the share page, and Pinecast pulls the audio and transcript into a draft episode.
- Enterprise admins can hide the General workspace from Settings → Drive preferences. Projects in it still show up in recents and search.
- Download up to 12 months of usage as a CSV from Settings → Usage. Descript emails you the file.
- Image generation now uses Nano Banana 2.1.
- Timeline exports without media files are much faster.
- The Regenerate button at an edit point is now called Smooth.
- Status messages now sit in a bar at the top of the editor.
- Underlord's model picker has an updated list. Each model on it is the best one you can get for its price.
- Import from Zoom or Google Drive straight into your media library. Google Drive import works on web only for now.
- The Descript MCP and API now use Claude Sonnet 5.5 by default.
- Descript MCP search results now include thumbnails.
Fixed
- Claude Code and Codex can connect to the Descript MCP now. If it failed before, remove the Descript server and add it again.
- Volume keyframes at the start and end of a clip aren't hidden behind the trim handles anymore.
- The timeline no longer flickers when you scroll.
- The timeline no longer freezes after you delete a clip from its menu.
- Script text no longer shakes up and down while you edit.
- Fixed video freezing partway through a recording.
- The search bar at the top of the desktop app works again.
- USB foot pedals now connect in the desktop app.
- Teleprompter: the close and fullscreen buttons work in the Windows app, you can switch scroll speed from Variable to Constant, and settings no longer freeze or reset when you reopen it.
- AAF export: audio no longer turns into static, clips stay in place when you open the file in Logic, large exports start faster, and exports keep going when your browser's storage is full.
- Fixed files getting stuck on "Initializing transcription."
- Healthy WebM, MKV, and image files no longer get a compatibility warning.
- Import from other projects now shows every project in your drive, not just ones shared with you.
- A copied layer now pastes into a shorter scene.
- Create Clips no longer comes back empty when your script has markers or AI speech tone tags.
- Audio-only share pages play again.
- Fixed "429" errors that could stop an export or publish.
- Publishing to Captivate no longer fails with "alignmentFailed."
- A failed layout pack publish no longer leaves the spinner going forever.
- Japanese dubs no longer fail with a server error.
- Rooms: echo cancellation removes the echo, the host's recording captures the mic channel that's actually live, and tracks line up after recording.
- Rooms on mobile keeps the microphone you picked instead of switching back to the default.
- Rooms upload status stays accurate when a host switches someone to Producer or Viewer mid-upload.
