When recording directly into a Descript composition, I saw that my audio input appeared to be peaking. (See attached screenshot.) But it turned out that when I turned my mic input down so that it didn't appear to be peaking, it recorded at way too low of a level and the sound was extremely noisy. Your indicator should not hit the edges of the meter when the levels are appropriate, because in every other piece of recording software, that implies peaking. Perhaps add a red zone at the edges?
