Final Cut Pro XML roundrtip
Donald Leitch
Import an FCPXML and export back to FCPX, retaining the video information. Especially the ability to replace audio edited in Descript with multicam clips. Similar to some https://www.speedscriber.com/ features.

I would like to be able to do an inbound multicam timeline from FCP or other tools into Descript.

XML Import into Descript

For our workflow, we would like to cut together multiple clips into an initial assembly, sync with external audio and then import the XML into Descript.

Use existing media and transcript data to create an updated composition after it's been edited in an external DAW. Each track/file could be its own subject name. Perhaps eventually new media files could also be uploaded and transcribed as part of this process, including edits and handles.

Make it possible to have a seamless workflow from a project already in fcpx. Enable import xml into Descript, then export back to fcpx

Import FCP XML (so I can work with multicam projects from FCP)

I work with multicam clips in final cut pro. (2 camera's on 1 person, wide and close).
I can't edit this in Descript and export this to fcpx. If I can import an XML allongside a movie or another way to roundtrip XML.

My ideal workflow would be a back and forth between Descript and FCPx so being able to import a XML timeline is uber important

Any update on this request? Is there even a sloppy work-around?

I'm finding Descript such an incredible way to make a paper edit, synthesising multiple longform interviews. However, round-tripping between multicam files in FCPx and Descript is extremely cumbersome. Making this work well would be absolutely game-changing for the narrative editing process.
Bas van den Ing
Tom Price you say cumbersome, but possible? How do you link the "missing file" to the multicam clip? Or is there another way. Hope to hear from you. Thanks.
Tom Price
Bas van den Ing Sadly, I've given up on trying to make the round trip work. What I do now is export the whole interview transcript as an SRT, plug that into my interview reel that I've created with the multicam selects in FCPX. I then just search for the lines (using the timecode) I've selected in my paper edit in descript, copy the selections out of the full interview reel multicam into a new project in FCPX... not straight forward, but somehow it still manages to save me some time. Apologies if I've not described this that clearly...

I played with Descript for the first time today and I must say it is a very interesting tool. Because I have multiple camera angles + separate microphones, I always have to sync the videos before I start editing. My current workflow is Pluraleyes -> Premiere Pro and there is no way for me to include Descript in it at the moment. If audio syncing is too complicated to incorporate, I have an alternate suggestion and that is to be able to import the .xml files from Pluraleyes into Descript. This way we will have an easy way to start editing already synced footage.
