I miss the scenes being in the sidebar. 😥

SCENE RAIL: Don't remove the left side scene rail

I understand that the scene rail (which is on the left) may be being removed from Descript in favor of "storyboard." I want to make sure that the left rail remains as an option for those of us who are using Descript for long form videos. I use it when I am creating videos and often have 30+ scenes to work with.
The option to put these in the middle in "Storyboard view", toggling between the timeline and the video viewing area is not good from a UI perspective. Along the left, the scenes are in sequential order, and I can see where the scene is in context of the video and the script in the center of the scene and the wavefile at the bottom. It's important that it's all in view.
Trying to toggle between the view of the wavefile, and the scene is very clunky. It stops me from seeing where in the wavefile I'm editing, and the larger sequential context of what I'm doing. I think the current style is very useful, and intuitive.
If it's on the left, and I can toggle it on and off, it keeps it out of the way. I'm often copying the format of scenes depending on who is speaking, and this new way seems very limiting. I also add specific graphics based on the scene, and want to see how that works in the context of the scene, functionality which seems to be being nerfed.
For Descript to continue to support long (and short) form videos, you need this left rail option. Most videos have multiple fast cuts to be competitive on YouTube. Please don't remove this just because those who are doing simpler projects don't like it, or don't like seeing it.

agreed. 100%.
It was so easy to just move scenes around by just dragging them in the sidebar. Not sure who decided to remove them.. but not a good look...

Continue to advocate for this as well. Posted about it in the official discord a few weeks ago.

I did want to say TY for putting this behind a feature toggle so we can disable it as needed.

Agree! I like the new timeline view - its great, but why get rid of the side bar? Duplication? Maybe - but the side bar is much easier to see scenes and chapters especially in larger projects. I'd rather use the old time line with the sidebar, than the new timeline without it/built into the timeline.

Agreed!!! That is how I did most of my editing. Loved the view that made editing seamless for big projects and adjusting scenes

I agree! Editing long videos with the sidebar and copying and pasting the layout were easy. Having it in the script makes it all more complicated and time consuming.

Removing them was probably the most out of touch update I've seen on Descript so far. They clearly don't realize how helpful it is and how useless the tiny thumbnail scene indicators in the transcript are in comparison
Being able to quickly scroll through the scenes, see a preview thumbnail that was big enough to notice how the shot looks, and navigate to that scene with a click was one of Descript's best features for long-form content. Removing it has genuinely made my editing process take longer

Alex Fischer Completely agree!
