MAJOR Ongoing Descript Issues
Matthew Brown
As a regular Descript user for work, I’ve encountered several persistent issues that significantly hinder productivity. These problems have been present for some time in both the Descript web version and desktop app, yet still remain unresolved or unoptimized:
Major Functional Issues:
- Playback crashes when using speeds above 1x.
- Laggy performance: delayed responses, slow composition duplication, and poor UI responsiveness.
- Gap clip bug: inserting one sometimes jumps the cursor and undoes the last action.
- Playback speed glitch: pressing the spacebar after adjusting speed reopens the speed menu instead of resuming playback.
Transcription & Script Problems:
- Inaccurate transcription of removed or excluded audio, even with “Remove from script” selected.
- No option to deselect files once marked for transcription.
- Duplicate sequences created when importing into a script.
Editing & Audio Bugs:
- "Create Clips" tool fails to honor clip length restrictions.
- Room Tone remains audible, even when fully disabled and volume set to 0%—this is particularly disruptive.
Audio Controls:
- Lack of decibel-based volume control: using percentages is far less precise than the previous dB system. Reinstating decibels would offer greater control and accuracy.
These issues severely impact my ability to work efficiently. I hope these will be prioritized for resolution in upcoming updates, as they’ve been present for quite some time.
