Make my own optimized files
SmartCarrion
Descript bogs down like crazy if i use 1080p or better on long form podcasts. The 'optimization' of the video files doesn't seem to do anything, it is either not visible or is literally not doing anything. Can you make is so I can upload two copies, a high res and down-res version of the file, and you only use the high res when I export/publish?

New editing codec for MASSIVE Performance Boost
SmartCarrion
I found a way to MASSIVELY increase performance on long (1hr+ edits)...i'm using my own optimized video copy, in which I reduced resolution to 480x270 and reencoded with Quicktime Photo JPEG codec. Now my editor went from unusable with 15 second pauses after every click (using Descript's automatic optimized file), to blazing fast. The codec (and maybe resolution) should be swapped out by Descript's automatic optimizer to use an intraframe codec like Quicktime Photo JPEG! They are using inter-frame HEVC and it is horribly slow to render and recalculate all the time. When I'm done editing I'll just swap files to my high res version and do the final export.

Yes I have also had to abandon longer than 30 mins video edits using Descript and switch to my workhorse editor (Davinci).

In tracking this down further, some combination of the hardware and software on my PC (and others) is not enabling hardware acceleration of h.265(HEVC) within Descript. So when descript 'optimizes' the video file and switches them to HEVC, it actually destroys performance of the whole app. My fix for now is to upload h.264(MP4), turn off optimization, and everything runs fine.
