Multicam music performances
Andrew Marston
I regularly record live music on a multicamera setup. The audio is processed as a WAV file and I currently import this along with every single camera angle, have to lipsync, adjust the lighting levels of each camera, etc. Some cameras are staffed, others are locked off (but always look great with a slight Ken Burns effect when they're cut to). At the moment, I'm spending hours cutting these together when some form of automation would be good - the more focussed movement seen on a particular camera, that's probably the shot I want. Equally, if all cameras are being repositioned or there's people in front of the lenses, I also create a stream of cutaways from wherever we're filming - so a mix between the live footage and the event cutaways (without too much recycled content) would be incredible.
Stating the absolute premium end of what we're editing, but it's all very mundane! Yes, if we had more staff, we'd mix it live...
