Offline working
Mark Ward
Yes! I love Descript, but this has become a frustration! I simply do not need the cloud uploads! They use up precious bandwidth!

Offline syncing for comments
Andy Gott
Would love if comments were saved offline, and then synced when connecting back to the internet. Unfortunately I have been burned from leaving many comments while working offline, only to find none of them saved (and were in fact deleted) when I synced online.

Improve Offline Recording
Cameron Lockey
I've had a number of issues when trying to record offline. In one case, I lost 40 minutes of a podcast recording session due to issues with it trying to sync while my internet connection was spotty. After re-recording with wifi completely turned off, I had to manually find each audio file and import it back into the project and re-create my 3-track sequences by hand in order to get Descript to transcribe the tracks I recorded into a normal composition. This just shouldn't be. There's no reason a desktop app shouldn't be able to simply record offline and transcribe after the fact. This is an instability issue that leaves the user feeling uncertain that their recording is secure when disconnected from wifi or on an unstable connection. I suggest that the app instead just allow an "Offline Mode" or have a "Sync" setting that is either on or off and when off, it neither tries to upload nor transcribe. It would be fine if transcription were not automatic once wifi is restored and each sequence had to be manually enqueued for transcription.

SquadCast Reliability and Local Caching
Cristian Cotovan
I'd like to request that SquadCast focuses on improving reliability by recording the files locally and uploading them separately.
We are struggling with multiple clients and multiple recording sessions with loss of recordings, failed uploads, interrupted or slow connections. SquadCast should implement a solution like other platforms out there -- cache locally, upload slowly or even AFTER the recording.
SquadCast should also do this to allow resuming an upload if a guest's connection gets interrupted.
Until these things are implemented, I'm afraid SquadCast's other features - 4K recording and all the bells and whistles are quite useless if recording reliability cannot be guaranteed.

The sluggishness and other problems caused by having to work through the cloud, rather than being able to work offline, is the SINGLE largest problem with Descript. In fact, if it doesn't get fixed, I will be leaving Descript. It is not a viable app otherwise.

I 100% agree here. Descript should be a full-fledged desktop app, not a desktop-based portal of a web app (that you....can't...use...on a web browser). I've lost tons of time due to bugs related to spotty internet connections etc. Don't get me wrong, Descript is amazing and we probably wouldn't be making a podcast if we didn't have it, but it should not be so dependent on a good internet connection.

Yes please! This would be awesome. I only started using Descript yesterday and already am having issues with it not auto saving, and getting “stuck” trying to download a resource that is local?! It also got very slow and jerky the more thing I added to the timeline. Having the cloud functionality is great but you have to be able to turn it off without disconnecting your entire computer from WiFi.

Yes, agree totally. On the other side of this, I would like to see a web-based version to work anywhere with and to get around locked down IT departments who won't load anything on a computer.

With Descript having global authentication issues today, we should all give this request some love. You can't claim to be making "production software" if that software is dependent on an internet connection and has crucial tasks dependent on the cloud. Production software needs to be robust and dependent only on the health of the computer it's installed on. A global authentication issue should not bring production for every single user to a screeching halt.
I'm sure the Descript team has their reasons for not building out offline functionality, but the time has now come to address this.

If you’re working remotely, WiFi may not be good or available and cellular data isn’t a feasible option.
