Option to auto-add crossfades to edits
Sean Ferres
I plus a MILLION this. It's SO time consuming adding tiny little fades to smooth the audio across hundreds of jump cuts in a project

Cuts are harsh, add crossfade

When making cuts through editing text, removing filler words or removing dead air the cuts are often harsh. If a slight crossfade could be added to each cut to soften it it would dramatically improve the quality of the produce audio/video

Auto Video Crossfades

When I edit my transcript for a podcast to sound smooth, the video version ends up having a lot of choppy movement at my edit points. It would be nice to be able to globally apply a smooth crossfade to each of the video cuts without changing the audio.

1) select text to remove 2) hit delete key 3) crossfade automatically inserts itself

Automatically add a crossfade (default 100ms) when deleting words. Feature can be disabled.

I feel everyone's sentiments. Descript is so amazing....but I still find myself doing very painstaking activities like applying crossfades for long periods of time when it could be an auto feature that would handle 95 percent of the work.

I AM Info legit, it's such an easy thing to implement and yet still every project takes hours because i'm sitting there adding tiny fades to hundreds of cuts. it's unbelievably tedious work

Agreed, sometimes the jump cuts are a little too jarring for a training video. I also would like option for softer fades in video transitions.

This is in our beta release https://web.descript.com/download?build=beta&platform=mac - adds invisible 5ms crossfades to every edit. See how it works for you.
Jonathan Levi
Andrew Mason: Can we add it to only SOME edits?
Andrew Mason
Jonathan Levi: it's small enough that you should never notice it. Just gets rid of pops at the boundary
Jonathan Levi
Andrew Mason: Ah OK. Then what I was hoping for was something different - cross-fading intro music and stuff into the podcast. Should I create a different feature request? Thanks for the fast reply
Mike Caporizzo
Andrew Mason: Andrew, this feature is excellent. I'm trying the beta release out and so far so good. Am I correct in my understanding that these crossfades are processed in the exporting process? I hear the pops in playback from the software, but these are gone when I playback an exported file. Thank you!
Oleg Melnikov
Andrew Mason: That's a great addition! It would be great to automatically add an additional crossfade or to control the duration of the existing 5ms cross fade. I find myself adding cross fades at every cut and figured it'd be easier to have them be added at every cut automatically and the remove those that that are excessive.

Andrew Mason: I am so excited you are adding this feature! Yay!

Andrew Mason: Is it possible to set our own default crossfade? Especially in conjunction with removing filler words. Almost all of my time is spent adding crossfades back in.

Is there a way to change the default 100ms value?
AY-AY-Ron
It is unclear to me how to enable/disable this

Logan Green
AY-AY-Ron: Same. Did you find it?
AY-AY-Ron
Logan Green: no apparently it’s been disabled and will be back later :-\
