Hi Descript Team,
I’ve been testing the new AI assistant features (Agent Underlord) and wanted to share some honest feedback based on my workflow and recent experience:
Custom Layouts & Transitions:
A major limitation is that the AI assistant can only apply built-in layouts and transitions. It cannot recognize, preserve, or work with custom layouts that I create for my unique filming setups. When I ask the assistant to add transitions or adjust layouts, it overwrites my custom work with defaults, which is a dealbreaker for advanced editing.
Script Edits vs. Visual Edits:
While the assistant can remove filler words or make script-based changes, these are already one-click actions in the AI Actions panel. The assistant doesn’t add efficiency or value here, since I can do these myself just as quickly.
Lack of Advanced Automation:
I was hoping the assistant would automate more complex, multi-step tasks or allow for batch operations that aren’t possible in the UI. Instead, it’s limited to what’s already available in the app, and often just points me to use the built-in features manually.
No Support for Custom Visual Workflows:
For editors who rely on custom layouts, transitions, and visual styles, the assistant isn’t useful. It can’t interact with or preserve these customizations, which means I can’t trust it with my projects.
Suggestions:
Please add support for recognizing and working with custom layouts and transitions.
Expand the assistant’s automation capabilities beyond what’s already available in the UI.
Allow the assistant to chain together multiple actions or apply changes in bulk, especially for advanced users.
Make it possible for the assistant to respect and preserve user-applied customizations.
Thanks for considering this feedback. I’d love to see the AI assistant become a truly powerful tool for both basic and advanced editors.
All the best,
Rabs.
