Proxy Workflow Support
David Schlaepfer
When editing with very large files, it's a standard for us to use low-res proxies during the edit, then relink to camera originals for export. Especially as video specs increase and more cameras shoot RAW / ProRes out of the box, this is becoming a hard requirement for fitting Descript into our post-production pipeline.
There are workarounds by exporting from Descript to XML, but that introduces the need to conform the cut in Premiere / Resolve / whatever we're finishing in. We could transcode the raw footage to lower bitrate files, but that introduces generational loss of data when we export the sequence from Descript.
Proxy support would solve these pain points and would make Descript a much more attractive offering for higher quality productions.

possible to have Descript analyze the wave forms from source audio files and auto-sync them to the guide track audio of the video proxy

Include "optimized files" when project exported to premiere

It'd be awesome if optimized files were included (as proxies) when a project is exported to premiere! This way, proxies would only have to be encoded once.

Bumping this - would love to be able to edit & export 4K video in Descript without having to switch programs or slow my PC to a crawl. As it is, I rely on editing in audio-only mode & then make final changes with video on-screen - not ideal.
