Safe zone overlay for Reels & Shorts in the video feed
Gabe Michalski
Safe zones are the areas of a vertical video frame (Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, TikTok) that are guaranteed to be visible and unobscured by the platform's native UI. Each platform overlays its own UI elements on top of the video — profile picture, username, like/comment/share buttons, caption bar, song title — which cover significant portions of the frame, especially along the bottom and sides.
This request is to add a safe zone overlay in Descript's video editing feed, similar to guides in CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, and Premiere Pro, so creators can see exactly which areas of the frame are safe to place captions, lower thirds, graphics, and key visuals before exporting. Without this, creators often publish videos where important content is hidden behind platform UI elements.
Ideally this would be available either as an overlay toggle in the video feed or as a template in the stock template library.

It could be so helpful with a Safe Zone overlay for portrait mode, so I could make sure my text and captions are readable on Instagram etc.
i know you can do this easily :)

Yes, really needed or wanted because too many times I publish with captions for it to only be hidden by the YouTube title and description. Or worse, the iPhone black pill at the top. But seeing that 2022 this was requested I wonder if it will... Lol.

IG/tiktok app overlays

Have a function that can toggle on and off that shows a transparent overlay of the in-app elements from an IG Reel or a TikTok video so you can make sure that the content you are creating will not be covered by those elements when published to those respective social platforms.

This would be SUPER helpful

Social Platform Interface Overlays
Sam
To ensure text and other elements aren't covered by a social media platform's native interface, it would be great to have a layer you could toggle over your Scene to show those (ie. IG reels, stories, feed posts)
