This is feature is on our "must ship" list prior to SquadCast being fully sunset.
In regards to the Sunset of SquadCast, you will receive lots of advanced notice (at least 3 months before a final end of service date.) And we will make files accessible for a long while after the final end of service.
We intend to ship this, and as many other lingering feature requests for Rooms → SquadCast parity as we can before the official end of SquadCast.

Gabe Michalski Does this mean that squadcast will completely go offline? I have a lot of recordings on here. You are asking everyone to offload those recordings? When are you planning on doing this? Or will squadcast remain online and no longer be connected to descript? I do not understand why you are doing this and causing your subscribers so much pain and hassle. Can you keep both options? We use squadcast because of the ability to schedule and for the ease of editing in descript. Are you thinking this through thoroughly?

Yes, since we merged with / purchased SquadCast, we have been explicit that eventually it will be replaced in Descript. The original SquadCast team built Rooms because it turns out this is a better overall solution than re-engineering SquadCast to fit into Descript's codebase.
If scheduling is the only missing feature, you're in luck, as I mentioned we won't end SquadCast service until this is added.
This plan has been in place the entire time, and we have extended the SquadCast service several times specifically to make sure that our SquadCast only users have a viable product that fulfills their needs. However, we do eventually need to do this as it's prohibitively complicated to maintain two entirely separate code bases like we are doing currently.
In regards to files: at a bare minimum they will be accessible for up to 1 year. I am also advocating behind the scenes for ways to automate the process for users who plan to stick around or wish to move their content elsewhere. No promises yet.

Gabe Michalski Do you plan to offer the same in session controls as Squadcast? Many people are not happy with Rooms thus far. I checked it out and it does not offer the same session controls like echo cancellation as Squadcast. We need to see a working site before committing to continuing with Descript Rooms. As it stands it seems many of us are looking into Riverside. I do not wish that as I like having Descript as an editing option. I do hope you are considering everyone's needs thoroughly.

I am thoroughly disappointed - to say the least - that you would even CONSIDER phasing out SquadCast before fully integrating its recording scheduling features into Rooms. For the past year, your support team has been telling me that scheduling in Rooms was in the works. Well, clearly, it's not - and judging from the comments in this category, I am one of many who use it for good reason. Scheduling with my guests is crucial. Heck, even scheduling for ME is crucial. The auto-generated calendar invitation is hands-down the easiest and best way to ensure none of us book something else at that time, and that my guests don't have to hunt through emails to find the link. Bottom line, Descript acquired SquadCast for good reason. The silence from your team on this issue is deafening.

Diane Byrne: We definitely should make some announcements to clarify, but suffice it say we just wanted users to know that SquadCast isn't receiving active development work - and that the transition to Rooms is coming.
We haven't announced the official date yet, so the details you would like haven't been 100% ironed out. What I can confirm is that Scheduling is on the "must have" list prior to use ending SquadCast.

Putting SquadCast into inactive development is extremely disappointing especially as Rooms seems to be a poor substitute right now thats lacking a lot if the SquadCast features, just reading these threads there are many. I have recorded a huge amount of shows via SquadCast and the scheduling and invitation function are a must when you are inviting guests and scheduling them in advance. The Dashboard in SquadCast is much cleaner and easy to use and navigate, Descript is starting to feel cluttered. The recoding quality in SquadCast seems much better as well. Over all I'm really unhappy with this change and think you had a long way to go before you stopped actively developing SquadCast and expected people to move to rooms, Rooms should have been at least equal if not better before you stopped developing SquadCast - as a long time user of both I'm very disappointed with this change

I note that this is now 'in development', but disappointing that this hasn't yet been solved before announcing the end of Squadcast. Is there any assurance this will be released before Squadcast is deprecated?

Please give Descript Rooms the capability to schedule interviews with dashboard. Stop telling us to Switch to Rooms, until this is available. You are wasting our time by telling us about a more reliable experience, when the basic experience of scheduling isn't available.

Please give Descript Rooms the capability to schedule interviews and maintain a dashboard like Squadcast. Stop telling Squadcast users to “Consider Switching to Rooms” until Rooms meets or exceeds Squqdcast’s capabilities. I just wasted an hour trying to see how to schedule an interview with Rooms because I saw this message: "Warning: SquadCast has joined Descript and is no longer in active development. Consider switching to Rooms for a more reliable experience!" It’s not the first time I wasted time investigating Rooms. If you’re going to alarm people that they should switch, you should make it plainly visible in the same message that scheduling is not yet available for scheduling/dashboard. I had to have a long exchange with Underlord before it told me: “Rooms does not yet match all SquadCast features, like scheduling or a calendar. You can keep using SquadCast for now; it will remain available until Rooms meets or exceeds its capabilities.
Descript encourages feedback—feature requests help shape Rooms’ future. There’s no set date for SquadCast’s shutdown, and you’ll get plenty of notice before any changes.”

how on earth is Descript Rooms supposed to replace Squadcast for podcasts without scheduling? Without that, we'll need to move to riverside or some other platform designed for podcasters.
