Currently, Descript caps editor playback speed at 3x. Users working with multi-hour long-form videos — such as interviews, lectures, or recordings — have no way to quickly skim through content at higher speeds (e.g., 10x–30x) directly in the editor.
This is a significant workflow bottleneck. Even on high-end hardware (e.g., M4 Max Mac Studio, 64 GB RAM, 1 Gbps internet), attempting to stream a multi-hour video at high clip speeds causes severe lag and is practically unusable.
Requested improvement:
  • Raise or remove the playback speed cap in the editor (currently 3x) to support speeds up to at least 10x–30x
  • Optimize streaming/playback performance for large, long-form projects at high speeds
  • Allow users to skim through long videos efficiently without needing to split projects into smaller compositions
Users should not have to restructure their entire project just to navigate through it quickly. The tool should support the user's workflow, not the other way around.
