Turn off auto-rescaling of timeline
Wayne Ergle
2nd Day with Descript. I thought I was doing something wrong when the timeline zoom kept changing. Why would an app behave this way? Click on text to edit and the timeline zoom changes. That does not make sense. And comes very close to making the software unusable. All the time saved with editing via script is lost when I am adding media and text.

This really should be able to be locked, when I'm adding elements to a really long video and trying to clip up the scenes it's auto zooming and taking me waaaay longer just to zoom in. It's every few seconds I'm having to adjust the elements and timeline just zooms out all the way every time. Super frustrating.

Lock Timeline Zoom Level
Katelyn Dekle
It's absolutely maddening that sometimes the timeline will Zoom nearly ALL THE WAY out while I'm editing it, especially while editing long-form videos that are 10-60 minutes long. Can we please get the ability to lock it at the level we're zoomed in while we're actively working on a section? I'm constantly having to manually zoom back in when it does this & it's losing me time & making me wish, mid-project, that I'd just edited it in Final Cut Pro instead.

Setting to avoid timeline zoom on selection
Alex Kempkens
The timeline automatic zoom on the selected words is a nice feature. It helps to remove filler words and make the cuts better.
At the same time this constant zoom in and out is really annoying. May be you can have a simple toggle setting, that allows to keep the zoom of the timeline constant or linked to the selected words?
I'm using the timeline to review the whole structure while editing the structure and correcting wrong transcripts. In this use case the zoom should be stable for me, to keep the overview.

Lock Feature for Timeline Zoom Scale
M
Michael Salvati
As a user, I frequently encounter an issue where the timeline zoom scale reverts back to its default setting whenever I make changes to the script. This behavior requires me to constantly zoom out to my preferred view, which disrupts my workflow and decreases my productivity.
To enhance user experience and efficiency, I propose the development of a ‘Timeline Lock’ feature. This feature would allow users to lock their preferred timeline zoom scale, preventing it from resetting to the default scale after making script changes.
Benefits:
- Improved user experience: Users will no longer have to readjust the zoom scale after every script change, leading to a smoother, more enjoyable user experience.
- Increased productivity: By eliminating the need for constant zoom adjustments, users can focus more on their work, thereby increasing productivity.
Acceptance Criteria:
- After adjusting the timeline zoom scale, users should have the option to lock their preferred scale.
- Once the zoom scale is locked, making changes to the script should not affect the zoom scale.
- Users should be able to easily unlock the zoom scale if they wish to make adjustments.

Locking the timeline or UI
P
Philip Brett King
Would it be possible to 'Lock ' the timeline or have a feature that locks how you view things? I like the timeline up whilst editing as sometimes removing words can be strong and remove audio that it shouldn't. Every time i edit I have to show the timeline and move it up to where I like it, it's only seconds but it would be great to have say a lock or template option to have the UI be locked. Love your product, Phil
