I agree! It would make thumbnail creation for videos so much easier.

I'd like to be able to easily capture high rez screen shots of video projects. I use them for promo material for the podcast episodes. Right now I have to export the video to my hard drive then put it in filmora where I use their snapshot feature.

Yes!!! I'm currently using VLC Player to export a single frame PNG for YouTube thumbnails. This will improve my workflow.

Just chiming in to say that this extremely basic feature is very important and literally every other video editing software has it!

How is this still not a thing?

Hi guys, descript is great but this is a super basic feature that really is important for video creators. Please can you add this, I was surprised that that this feature is not included. This is a significant hurdle in the video editing process with Descript. Need to upload to a different video editing software to do this now. Kind of defeats the purpose of using descript in the first place. Thank you

Four years later, and still no way to export a frame as an image?!

I just did I search on how to create a Thumbnail from a video frame - and guess what - you can't! Please fix this simple task.
Currently I have to export the video, then take a screen shot of the frame, then go back to descript and insert the png at the start of the video.
Without this, I can't use the video to publish as an FB Reel as there is no thumbnail option on FB Reels.
Am I missing something?

Feature Request – Export Frame as Image for Thumbnails
Autumn Carter
Hi Descript Team,
I love using Descript for my video editing, and I appreciate how intuitive it is for content creation. One feature that would be incredibly helpful is the ability to export a single frame as an image directly from the timeline.
Currently, many YouTube creators, podcasters, and video marketers (myself included) need high-quality thumbnail images from our recordings. Right now, the process involves manually taking a screenshot, which can be inconsistent in quality and requires extra steps. Having a dedicated “Export Frame” option (with customizable resolution and format choices like PNG or JPG) would make it much easier to create professional thumbnails directly from Descript.
This feature would:
• Save time by eliminating the need for external screenshot tools.
• Ensure high-quality images without compression or artifacts.
• Streamline the workflow for creators who rely on Descript for content production.
I’d love to see this added in a future update! Thank you for continuously improving the platform—Descript has been a game-changer for my workflow.
Best,
Autumn Carter
